POST-TREATMENT GUIDELINES

AVOID direct sun exposure for at least 14 days post-peel, longer for intensive peels. Absolutely no tanning beds. (We recommend discontinuing this practice permanently as it will negatively affect the long-term health of your skin and the results of your skincare treatments.)

AVOID any activities that will elevate your body temperature or cause sweating for at least 48 hours (exercise, sauna, hot tub, etc.). Rule of Thumb: If your skin is sensitive under a warm shower spray, do not heat your body internally.

DON'T expose your skin to pool water or chlorine-based chemicals until it has completely healed.

NEVER pick, pull, scrape, or scrub flaking or peeling skin during the recovery phase. This could result in adverse effects such as hyperpigmentation or discoloring of the skin. Allow skin to shed naturally. Trim shedding skin with a pair of small nail scissors if desired. Use the enzyme masque provided in your post-treatment kit to help reduce visible flaking or peeling.

AVOID using any active topicals until your skin has returned to normal (usually between 5-14 days, depending on the peel received). Active topicals include retinol-based products, and AHA/BHA-based products.

DON'T schedule any facial waxing treatments for 7-14 days post-peel.

NEVER allow your skin to dry out and “crack.” Use our provided post-treatment kit to keep your skin moisturized and hydrated while healing.

DO be very careful of hair color services and the use of chemicals around the perimeter of your face while your skin is healing.

DO protect your skin diligently! Wear our recommended professional SPF 30 or SPF 50 moisturizer daily and re-apply as needed. Avoid excess heat. Failure to do so may increase the risk of hyperpigmentation and/or other unwanted outcomes.

DO use your post-treatment skincare kit daily while your skin is healing. These products will nourish, soothe, and protect your skin during the recovery phase, until you are ready to resume your prescribed skincare regimen.

IF you have very sensitive skin and you have received a moderate to intense peel, we recommend that you sleep elevated for the first 1-3 nights to prevent fluids from pooling in the eye area. Mild puffiness can occur for sensitive skin types. If needed, you may take an antihistamine such as Zyrtec or Claritin to reduce any skin puffiness.

POST-TREATMENT SKINCARE REGIMEN

DAY OF TREATMENT:

We will provide you with a post-treatment kit to help care for your skin in the days following your appointment. When you return home, place your sheet mask in the refrigerator to cool.

We will apply potent topical serums and SPF to your skin on the day of treatment. Leave these on until you wash your face in the evening. You may wear makeup if desired. Stay out of the sun and avoid excess heat.

In the evening, gently cleanse skin with tepid water and a microfiber washcloth, using the cleanser in your post-treatment kit. Apply refrigerated hydrogel sheet mask to your face, and leave on for 10-20 minutes. This mask will instantly hydrate, calm, and feed your newly treated skin. Finish by applying the skincare products in your post-procedure kit as directed.

DAYS 1-2 POST-TREATMENT:

Morning & evening, wash skin and apply skincare products as directed in your post-treatment kit. Apply sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun exposure and excess heat. Avoid use of active topicals until skin has completely healed.

DAYS 3-10 POST-TREATMENT (and up to 14 days):

Same as Days 1-2. In addition, skin may become dry, flaky, or begin to shed during this period (depending on type of peel received). NEVER scrub or pick flaking skin. Allow skin to shed naturally to prevent complications. Once skin has returned to normal, you may resume your regular prescribed skincare regimen. Schedule your next clinical peel appointment for 2-4 weeks from today's treatment.

HOME MAINTENANCE:

We will recommend a simple, customized homecare regimen for you to use between appointments, once your skin has healed. This regimen regimen will help keep your skin healthy, maintain your results, protect your skin, and keep pigment-producing cells and other skin agers at bay.

POST-PEEL EXPECTATIONS

1 - Similar to a mild to moderate sunburn, warmth, tightness, redness, and sensitivity are common side effects on the day of treatment, depending on the level of clinical peel performed. Level 1 (mild) peels will result in very minor side effects (if any), whereas Level 3 (advanced) peels will likely result in all of them. These side effects may persist for 3-11 days, depending on skin type and the strength and level of peel used.

2 - Mild edema (puffiness) is more rare, but is also a possible side effect of aggressive peels or for those with very sensitive skin. If needed, an antihistamine such as Zyrtec or Claritin may be taken to help reduce any puffiness caused by a histamine reaction. If present, puffiness is typically most noticeable in the under-eye area. For sensitive skin types or more aggressive peels, we recommend sleeping elevated for 1-3 nights to help avoid fluids pooling in the eye area.

3 - For aggressive peels, some discoloration of the skin may present itself as the skin is healing. This is temporary and will resolve during the healing process as pigment is lifted and sloughed off the skin.

4 - Dryness, flaking, and/or peeling are common side effects after receiving clinical peels, and the extent of these depends on type of peel and skin condition. Flaking or peeling is considered a side effect, and the amount does not correlate with the degree of improvement in the skin. Dry skin will most likely occur on Day 2 after receiving a clinical peel. Depending on the type and intensity of peel received, flaking, peeling, and/or shedding may occur from Days 3-7 (or up to 10-14 days for advanced clinical peels). Any dryness, flaking, and/or peeling is temporary and will resolve during the healing process.

5 - Skin will return to normal within 3-14 days, depending on intensity of peel.

6 - Once skin has completely healed, you may return to your normal prescribed skincare regimen.

TREATMENT BENEFITS & FREQUENCY

TO ACHIEVE BEST RESULTS: In order to maximize clinical peel results, we recommend undergoing a series of four to six progressive peel treatment sessions customized specifically to your skin and spaced 2-4 weeks apart (depending on the type of peel treatment). We recommend completing one to two SKIN STUDIO 360 peel programs per year.

TO MAINTAIN RESULTS: When not undergoing an active treatment program, we recommend facial treatments every 4-6 weeks in addition to following a simple, prescribed home maintenance skincare program. Our SPA 360 subscription program is the perfect way to stay on track with your skincare regimen.
